New dog; deporting dog

We got a new puppy over the weekend, a rescue pup from a shelter about 3 hours away. She had been fostered by a family for the last week and had been on the docket for being put down. She's an Australian Shepherd (and I think Husky or Malamute) mix. Her name is Callie and she's a sweetheart. Got her spayed and an umbilical hernia fixed a few days ago.

On the flipside, Sassy is just not turning out to be a cold weather dog for us. She's so skinny and gimpy and we can't leave her outside during the day with Derby. So Rachel's folks are happy to take her and give her the good life in Sunny Socal. We're going to meet them in Winnemucca and see her off. We think she's going to be a really good fit for them there.

Happy 2009 peoples

Howdy! Hope you all had a wonderful and meaningful Christmas holiday and a safe celebration of the new year. Making the effort to start adding to this blog again in 09 and documenting the things I'm wanting to do. Candidly 08 got almost no activity on here because nobody wants to read drama and complaining and trust me that's about all you might've gotten from me :-) 08 didn't have a lot of fun outings, literally no mountain biking, and a whole lotta struggles. We'll call it our "biggest growth year ever."

Let's make 09 fun and one of some super growth.

Idaho Velo Park - Pump Track build

Brad Nelson has done a fine job of organizing the work/build days at the new velo facilities. Only problem - the weather has not cooperated at all. So, yesterday's pumptrack build looked in jeapordy again as we woke up Saturday morning to rain. I was bummed - another build day down the drain. But Brad emailed me back and said we were still on for 10am, so I loaded my little park bike on the roof and headed about 30 mins north to Eagle, ID. There were a few guys there (Brad and Mark) and then Daryl rolled up. More guys ended up coming as the clock ticked forward while Judd de Vall from IMBA shaped and packed with the Deere dirt mover and gas-powered golf cart. I could only work from 10am-1pm since Saturdays are our family day. I took a bunch of photos too. I am sure between the work that continued after I left and the work done today the pumptrack is probably just about done. Looking forward to trying it out.

More updates soon!

Snow & Ice Workout

So I walked out into the garage to do the F part of my M-W-F workout. I spied the snow and frozen spots outside the door and thought I'd move a bit for fun. So an hour and a half later....I am finishing up the entire back patio.

Saturday 1/26/08 Boise Snowplowing

Daniel L. and I met at the Camelsback Parking lot at 7:50am to brave the 19 deg temps. Actually there was -0- wind and it was pretty warm with the layers. I did most of the ride without the windbreaker. Shortly after starting I realize I am stuck in low gear (on the 34 tooth) with a seized up rear der. I played with it a little but no dice. So, I faux dingle speeded (swiching between the small and middle front rings) the 9miles up the Freeway to the top of Hulls and back down. Slippery slidery out there too. I think the total number of miles "pedaled" would've been close to 12 had the bike computer be linked to the rear tire since traction was at a minimum. I even let the air down to about 15 on the Maxxis High Roller 2.35 in the rear to get whatever traction I could get. Saw about 6 other mtb'ers out there, mostly on the way back. Tons of walkers/runners and doggies. Gotta love this weather.

Home by 10am-ish, just in time for more coffee and Leggo Waffles. WORD.

Idaho Velo Park - Take 1

After getting a solo 20 miles on the road in today, Daryl came over and we drove up to check out the progress on the Idaho Velo Park in Eagle, and were blown away by what we saw. The 3 freeride/dh courses and the 4X look like they are going to be amazing.

Judd and Randy (Spangler) chatted with us for 10 minutes about the dirt courses and were really cool guys. They talked about the pump track and other coming attractions. WOW. I am pretty excited about this. Stay tuned for more!
